Outside In: A Conversation with Jason Eatherly

May 1, 2018

ABOUT THE EVENT:

Join me Friday, May 11th from 6-8pm at sprATX for an evening filled with personal insight from yours truly!

A deeper look at “Outside In” with Jason Eatherly. This art talk will cover topics such as: his personal artistic journey, his transition from and between street art and fine art, what people can expect from his new body of work, and what is in store for the future. The “Outside In” solo exhibition will feature never-before-seen paintings, sculptures, and art installations in which found objects from these lost spaces are allowed to infringe upon and disrupt the gallery space. By transforming salvaged materials and elevating them into works of art, the viewer is challenged to see past surface erosion to the beauty underneath.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Widely recognized in the local street art scene for his image of a queen wearing a gas mask, Jason is expanding his work to the fine art world. Jason is heavily influenced by urban decay, abandoned structures, and weathered environments where nature is reasserting its dominance. Jason adds, “I often catch myself admiring the decaying architecture and aging means of transportation on my daily commute around town or during my travels elsewhere. I tend to scheme the endless possibilities these abandoned spaces and things could become through my art --- From a run down, rusted out VW bug, a make shift DIY skate spot under a bridge, to a boarded up, falling apart warehouse; there’s underlying beauty in it all. I find potential in the abandoned grit in our world; it’s all around us. The moment you see it for what it is and accept it, is the moment you can truly appreciate the so-called worthless ‘things’ you see every day. This show will convey this overall theme of decaying beauty and finding the deeper significance within.”
